Saturday was my last evening at the Ekko Festival and it ended with a furious drummer called “duracell” - there is no better name for a drummer.

Thursday started the Ekko Festival - a festival for electronic music at the Kunsthall here in Bergen. First up on my schedule today: Moen meets Me At Sea. A very nice duo - though they had a few technical problems. Next up a strange band called Apt - short for an even stranger name: Automat.Piss.Tool. After Kango Stein Massiv and Pier Bucci - two DJs - an electronica Band called Naked Ape and then tonight main act: Mu. Mu is a crazy japanese girl, singing and dancing madly around the stage.

Kings of Convenience - Protest Concert

JCDecaux owns a company in Norway called ClearChannel, which is going to buy all bus stops in Bergen, tear them down, rebuild them and sell advertisment placements. The local culture scene riots, because it fears to lose the most important channel to promote their activities. Today Kamelon hosted a protest concert - for free - with Kings of Convenience, The Owens and some other bands. Afterwards at around 1am started an event called jamming with Edward. After my parents left, I went downtown to a club called Kamelon to a lovely jazz evening. Chatted with the bar keeper - a chinese-spanish-norwegian girl studying marine engineering.

Night discoveries

I discovered two cool things this night in Bergen: the bar “Landmark” and the one man show “Casa Electro Novo“. Diane and I wanted to go to a new location and went to Landmark without knowing what the program was. It turned out that a artist was playing that Diane already saw and liked a lot. Landmark is located between the two buildings of the Art Museum of Bergen and is more a lounge/bar than a Club - but a very very nice bar/lounge - will have to check again if it is may be more party on other nights.

Waterfalls everywhere

Diane and I started our 2 day trip to hardanger on Friday. We drove along the northern side of Hardangerfjord first to Granvin, then to Osa, with the ferry from Bruravik to Brimnes and finally to the hotel in Eidfjord.

Saturday morning we reached our main destination: Vøringsfossen. The highest waterfall in Norway with a free fall of over 180 meters. We saw it from the tourist platforms on the top and it was already quite impressive. In a brochure I had read about a path along the river in the valley to the foot of the waterfall. The path is not easy to find: you have to park the car on the side of the road right at the top of Måbøtunnelen and then walk along a small pedestrian road that leads you to the river path. The hike was quite rocky, but the view from the bottom of Vøringsfossen all the more impressive and we got to walk over a very cool “Indiana Jones”-like swinging bridge.

On the road back we stopped by on the bank of Sørfjorden to have some sandwhiches and continued through Odda and the 11km long tunnel Folgefonntunnelen. At Løfallsstranda we missed the ferry by 5 minutes and had to wait for 1h20 before setting over the Kvinnheradsfjorden and driving home to Bergen through narrow roads in the dark under pouring rain.

Daytrip: Fjell/Øygarden

We rented a car and drove to an archiple only 45 minutes north west of Bergen: Fjell / Øygarden. Several small islands are interconnected through bridges. We made some smaller hikes on paths I have found through carwalks.com - one of those on the little island of Turøy. Although Bergen is on the seaside, you have to go here to see the real sea in all its beauty with an all blue horizon and sunset on the sea.
